Bharathi Kalalaya, USA, is a fine arts institution dedicated to Performing Arts in Indian Music and Dance.  It was founded and established by Anuradha Suresh in April 1998.  In  the short period since its inception, Bharathi Kalalaya has won the support and strength from local communities in the Bay Area.   Many artists have enthusiastically come forward to teach, as well as, participate in programs and events organized by Bharathi Kalalaya.  We are proud to have set foot into the web, in an effort to spread word of our institution and its mission.  We hope that you, as a reader, will benefit from the information we have provided here about Bharathi Kalalaya.  We thank you for stopping by our website and hope that you can join us in our mission to promote the varied and unique arts of India.

Mission Statement

We are Different!!

Bharathi Kalalaya intends to be a professional and academic venture.  On the professional side, plans are afoot to affiliate with the recording world and the film world to enable students with those intentions to pursue a satisfying avocation or full-fledged career if they so will.  On the academic side, we are associating with several art academies to eventually allow students to graduate: the statement being from 1st grades to PhDs.  The intention is to eventually reach the standards in qualification that are our cultural version of the Trinity College of Music (London) and the like.

What made us begin this school...

Though there are many individuals who run classes of various Indian arts, there was scope for a registered professional school, which offers several streams under one roof.   Secondly, there are a whole host of good teachers who needed the organizational set up to deliver the best.  Above all, this group of teachers who have joined Bharathi Kalalaya have a common ambition of passing our traditional arts to the future generations who are here.  Not surprisingly, there is a consensus amongst this group that arts is the easiest way to worthy traditional values in any age.

Other than the usual rhetoric of traditional art and values, what do we offer..

The school runs in house monthly concerts from January to October.  We intend to help students get over stage fear, impart the ability of public speaking and to excel in group activity without rivalry.  They will be given opportunities at dramatics and choreography.  This will enable the youth of the present and the following generations a chance to blend traditional values with what they think is relevant and applicable.  It will serve as a Parent-friendly Hyde Park for free expression.
